Project Details

Hawthorne Civil was engaged on the Yawalpah Road Bridge project at Pimpama for the City of Gold Coast, with Georgiou Group as Principal Contractor. The project involves the delivery of a two-span, three-lane road bridge and associated approach retaining walls, forming a key piece of transport infrastructure in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.

Major progress has been achieved on site, with the bridge structure and initial retaining wall works now substantially complete. The project scope was subsequently expanded to include additional retaining wall works under a significant variation, extending the program into 2026 and demonstrating Hawthorne Civil’s ability to adapt and maintain momentum as project requirements evolve.

A critical milestone was delivered during a planned rail shutdown weekend, where Hawthorne Civil crews safely and efficiently removed girder walkways over an active rail corridor and adjacent live roadways. The operation required complex staging, detailed traffic management and traffic switching, and precise coordination to complete the works within a tight two-shift window.

Through meticulous planning, seamless collaboration and a strong focus on safety and quality, the works were executed successfully with minimal disruption. The project highlights Hawthorne Civil’s expertise in complex bridge construction, live rail and road interfaces, and the delivery of high-risk works within constrained environments.
