Funded by both the Federal and Queensland Governments, the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is a $1.6 billion infrastructure upgrade designed to improve road safety, reduce travel times and relieve traffic pressure on Toowoomba’s local road network.
Nexus Infrastructure was engaged to design and construct the 41-kilometre motorway, featuring four traffic lanes, a 30-metre-deep cutting at the top of the Toowoomba Range and an 800-metre-long viaduct. Hawthorne Civil was engaged to deliver form, reinforcement and pour works across a range of bridge and structural elements on the project.
Hawthorne Civil’s scope included the construction of barrier systems, end terminals and anti-throw screens, along with in situ pours of barrier walls within the eastern section of the project. Our crews also completed transition barriers, Thriebeam guardrails and gantry bolt set-ups, delivering works to exacting safety and quality standards.
The project was delivered with a strong focus on safety and environmental management, achieving zero MTIs and LTIs throughout the works. This project demonstrates Hawthorne Civil’s capability to deliver high-quality FRP works on large-scale, complex motorway infrastructure projects.
