Project Details
Hawthorne Civil was engaged under a labour hire contract by SMS Marine to support the Cairns Port Early Works project, delivering specialist personnel for marine and precast construction activities.
The scope of works included the construction and installation of precast concrete platform support structures, incorporating prefabricated platforms weighing up to 50 tonnes. Works were undertaken within an active marine environment and required careful planning, cranage coordination and strict adherence to safety procedures.
The project presented unique environmental and safety considerations due to the proximity of water, with site-specific risk controls implemented to manage hazards associated with the marine setting. Hawthorne Civil worked closely with SMS Marine to ensure all safety, quality and program requirements were met throughout the works.
This project demonstrates Hawthorne Civil’s ability to provide reliable, skilled labour support for complex marine infrastructure projects, even within challenging and high-risk environments.
