    Project Details

Hawthorne Civil delivered a comprehensive package of rail maintenance, drainage and bridge works in the highly remote Belyando region of Queensland on behalf of Bowen Rail Company. The works focused on improving rail corridor resilience through culvert upgrades, floodway works, drainage crossings and verge repairs, supported by plant and equipment supplied internally through Hawthorne Plant and Logistics.

Despite the significant logistical challenges associated with operating in a remote location and sourcing materials, the project was delivered on program through careful planning, efficient staging and adaptable site management. Strong performance and professionalism on site resulted in a positive client relationship and the award of further rail infrastructure packages.

Under the BMD Group main works, Hawthorne Civil completed the full substructure and superstructure construction of four rail bridges, along with the construction of 17 reinforced concrete box culvert (RCBC) drainage structures, including the landing and sealing of precast box culverts. Additional works included the construction of two occupational culvert crossings, providing safe access beneath the rail corridor for local landholders, and the installation of approximately 2 kilometres of twin-cell box girders weighing up to 60 tonnes.

Further works were delivered for Martinus, including the construction of numerous RCBC culverts and bridge structure elements, the landing and sealing of precast box culverts, installation of approximately 3.4 kilometres of twin-cell box girders (up to 60 tonnes), and the installation of 10.8 kilometres of permanent rail access walkways servicing 23 bridges along the project alignment.

This project demonstrates Hawthorne Civil’s capability to deliver large-scale rail, bridge and drainage infrastructure in highly remote environments, combining technical expertise, logistical planning and strong client collaboration to achieve successful outcomes.
