Project Details

Funded by both the Federal and NSW Governments, the Bridge over the Richmond River at Broadwater forms part of the $4.6 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade.

Lendlease was engaged to design and construct the bridge, which features more than 200 precast concrete components, including headstocks and concrete bridge girders.

Hawthorne Civil was engaged to deliver FRP works across a range of bridge structure elements. Our scope included cross-girder, deck and barrier construction, as well as the installation of precast components. Works were completed in close coordination with the principal contractor to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality delivery.

Our crews delivered the following FRP works:

  • Setting of scuppers

  • Installation of deck screed rails

  • Formwork and pouring of abutments

  • Installation of diaphragms

  • Placement and grouting of bearing pads

  • Stitch pours

  • Relieving and base slabs

  • In situ barrier wall formwork, reinforcement and pours

  • Grouting of twin-rail base plates

The project was delivered with a strong focus on safety, quality and environmental management, achieving zero MTIs and LTIs. Upon completion, the bridge contributes to reduced travel times, improved road safety and increased transport efficiency along the Pacific Highway corridor.
