Supported by both the Federal and Queensland Governments, the Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway Project is a major civil infrastructure upgrade for South East Queensland and forms part of the broader Bruce Highway upgrade program.
FHSWJV was engaged to upgrade the highway to six lanes, including significant upgrades to intersections and highway service roads. Hawthorne Civil was engaged to deliver the construction of four bridge structures as part of the project.
Hawthorne Civil’s scope included the installation of formwork and access systems for both substructure and superstructure works, installation of reinforcing steel, pumping and placement of concrete, and the installation of precast elements. Key works also included the installation of 80-tonne 1525 precast Super-T beams, 256 precast deck units, and precast parapets, requiring careful planning, cranage coordination and precise execution.
A large and experienced Hawthorne Civil team was deployed to deliver the works, achieving high-quality outcomes and consistent performance across all structures. The project was delivered ahead of schedule, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and environmental management, with zero MTIs and LTIs.
This project highlights Hawthorne Civil’s capability to deliver complex bridge construction works within major motorway upgrade projects across South East Queensland.
